International Team finishes 3rd at BIIBC Internationals

The AIIB International team turned in a solid performance to finish 3rd at the Senior Internationals held in Llanelli from 12th – 14th March 2020.

In the opening game on Thursday Afternoon they came up against a very strong Scotland team and after a titanic struggle they were defeated narrowly by 15 shots (106 – 121)

The following day they were up against the reigning champions England who were a very strong team with many of the top world stars on their team. Again the team can be proud of their display as the competed for long periods of the game. In the end they were defeated by 31 shots (93 -124)

The final game played on Saturday morning against Wales was the battle for the wooden spoon. The Selectors were hampered by the unavailability of Team Captain Ian McClure who had been unwell. They also opted to make some changes both in personnel and positions. The game did not start well with Wales taking an early lead which they maintained up to the 17th end when Ireland drew level and then took the lead. This lead was maintained to the end and Ireland ran out winners by 7 shots (111 – 104)

The Team Manager and Selectors are to be congratulated for the progress they have made with the team. A lot of young players have been introduced into International Bowls and this augers well for the future.
